Featured Advent Week 1 Reflections:
This year I am doing my Jesse Tree Ornaments with my CCD class. You can find:
as well as project suggestions and readings to go along with the ornament for each day. This week’s featured ornament is the Camel-Abraham’s Faith:
Light one purple candle if you have an Advent wreath for week 1 and pray:
Lord help us to do your will and when called by you to do something, the courage to do it.
Read Genesis 12: 1-7
Discuss – Have you ever made a long trip or pilgrimage? What was it like? Would you have the faith to do what Abraham did? As a military family we move a lot so this one we can really relate to. Are we obedient to God like Abraham? We must remember to build a “spiritual alter and pitch a tent” in our hearts for God wherever He may lead us.
Featured Advent Calendar Story
With my son for our own personal Advent Devotion I am doing something very simple. I want Christmas to be simple this year. I came across this sweet little Advent Calendar Book and have decided to read it with him each day:
Read my full review today at The Curriculum Choice! It’s not too late to get started-we are only on day 2 today. I am doing it this year instead of the Jesse Tree because we need something light and easy.
Since our objective this year won’t be filling up the base of our tree up with presents, I’ve been brainstorming on how to use the space. I found my answer here: Christmas in 25 Boxes from Kathy @ Cornerstone Creations. Though I’ll be substituting the printables with the book chapters from Charlie and Noel, I decided I could have boxes under our tree which include the symbol for each chapter in the story. And as the story unfolds, we can keep them under the tree along with the projects and things we create each day as our little activities. No more suffering from Under the Tree Syndrom, LOL.
And guess what? It also solves a huge space problem I have with homeschooling in a small house and no homeschool room. All our homeschool things have to fit neatly in one cabinet so what to do with all our little Advent projects?
That’s right, they can just be stored under the tree- Problem Solved! It doesn’t mean there won’t be any presents under the tree this year, it just means that there is no pressure to have enough presents there. There will be plenty to fill our tree!
Each week I would also like to feature a recipe, book, or art lesson.
This week’s feature is a recipe: Stuffed Acorn Squash
Got acorn squash is the fridge and not sure how to use it? My family loved this recipe~Click image to get recipe.
I also want to share with you an amazing giveaway on iHomeschool Network.
Stop over and see what homeschool giveaways you may want to enter in their 40 Days of Christmas event!
